Are you planning to start a blog and wondering whether blogging is right for you?
Then, you should read this article because by the end of this article you will know for sure whether blogging suits you or not.
So read on.
Do you love writing?
Before deciding to become a blogger, you should analyse if you love writing.
The main task in blogging is writing and bloggers need to write on a daily basis (but there is no need to publish daily).
If you hate writing and are thinking of blogging, then you will have a very hard time.
You should not jump into blogging by assuming that you will start to love writing once you start a blog, you should have an innate passion to write.
Even if your writing skills are not good, you can improve them when you write consistently and you can only write on a consistent basis when you love to write.
Can you invest?
Blogging requires small monetary investment and major time investment.
To start a blog, you need to spend money on purchasing a domain name and web hosting.
Here, you need to invest many months if not years to produce content which will eventually attract visitors to your blog.
You can call your blog a success only when it succeeds to attract visitors because you can earn from your blog only when it draws visitors.
The initial phase is very tough in blogging because you have to put in a lot of work to produce content and you can’t immediately tell whether the blog posts are producing any results or not.
Here, you need to wait for several months (around 8 months to 1 year) to see results.
So, blogging is right for you only if you are ready to invest some money and a lot of hard work into your blog.
Do you love researching?
Research is needed in every step of blogging.
For example, even before starting a blog, you need to research the niche and name of your blog and the availability of the domain name.
After starting a blog, you need to perform exhaustive research to write articles.
Also, you need to research to analyse the competition for the topics of the blog posts.
If you are the person who loves to perform research, then blogging is the right fit for you.
Do you have interests and knowledge to share?
People visit a blog to gain knowledge.
So, it is very important to have knowledge on topics which you blog or at least have interest in some topics.
Without these you can’t write unique blog posts.
Your interests and knowledge determine the niche of your blog.
For example, if you are passionate about technology and possess good knowledge of it, then you can choose technology as the niche for your blog.
So, you should analyse your interests and knowledge of topics before starting a blog.
As in my case, I like learning the success stories of people and brands and this interest enabled me to start my first blog, Youth Motivator on the same topic.
Later, after blogging for around a year, I realised my other passion, blogging and search engine optimization (SEO) and this helped me to start Neat Blogging, the blog which you are reading right now.
If you think that you don’t have interests or knowledge to share, you should develop them and then only start a blog.
Can you contribute something unique?
There are blogs on almost all the topics on the internet.
To become a successful blogger, you should be capable of writing unique blog posts.
This is possible only if you possess deep knowledge of the topics.
When you possess deep knowledge of any topic, while performing research you will find that some areas haven’t been well served on the internet and then, you can step in and contribute.
But on the contrary, if you don’t possess deep knowledge, first of all, you can’t find the gaps in your topic and even if you found some gaps, you won’t be capable of fulfilling them.
When you produce unique content, you face little competition and there are high chances that you will succeed at blogging.
Are you comfortable learning technical skills?
Blogging involves much more than writing.
To become a successful blogger, you should be willing to learn various skills like setting up a web hosting and domain, understanding your content management system (CMS) like example, WordPress and SEO, graphic designing, various web services like Google Analytics, Google Search Console, etc.
So, you should be willing to develop your technical skills.
If you are technophobic, then you can’t succeed as a blogger.
Can you sit in front of the computer for long hours?
Blogging is one of those jobs that require you to sit in front of a computer for long periods of time.
As blogging requires extensive writing, you should be comfortable to be able to type for long hours.
To make your blog successful, in the initial years, you should be able to toil on your computer for prolonged hours.
If you are uncomfortable doing this, starting a blog wouldn’t be a wise decision.
Are you good at time management?
Proper time management is the most important thing for your success as a blogger.
If you are good at time management, you will squeeze out time out of your busy day for your blog.
Also, you will resist the urge to waste your time on social media and spend your time on those things which move the needle the most.
Can you take criticism?
When you start a blog, it will draw visitors from all over the world.
And some of them may criticise you and your work.
So, you should be able to handle criticism well and this is important because people publicly observe your reactions.
When you behave in a well-mannered way to the criticism, your blog readers will appreciate you.
So, if you are criticism-tolerant, then blogging is apt for you.
In a nutshell, blogging is right for you if you love writing and researching.
Also you should have interests or knowledge to share and be willing to work on the computer for extended hours.
You should be willing to invest, learn new technical skills and properly manage your time.
So, do you have all the required qualities to become a blogger?
If not, which qualities are you planning to develop?
