Harsh Agrawal is one of the most popular bloggers in the world and he is the man behind ShoutMeLoud.

If you are a blogger or a digital marketer, then you would have definitely visited his website.

Harsh Agrawal’s path to success is very inspirational and it teaches you to become both a successful blogger and an entrepreneur.

From engineer to blogger-

Harsh Agrawal was born on 22 June 1987 in Jharkhand and in 2002, he moved to Delhi.

In 2008, after graduating in Information Technology from Sharda University, the 22-year-old Harsh Agrawal was placed in Accenture.

But he had to wait for a year to receive the joining date.

So, meanwhile Harsh Agrawal joined Convergys Call Center in Gurgaon (Gurugram), Haryana.

While working here, as he had a lot of free time, he started blogging.

Harsh Agrawal’s first blog

Harsh Agrawal’s first blog (virgintech.blogspot) was started in September 2008.

He used to work for eight hours in the night shift at Convergys and devote six hours of his time to his blog.

At that time, Harsh Agrawal didn’t know that a blog could earn money, he started blogging just as a hobby for sharing his learnings with the world.

His first online income-

Initially, Harsh Agrawal felt that making money online is kind of proscribed and impossible but these notions quickly vanished when he received his first payment.

Once, he was browsing Digital Point Forum and he came across an Australian who was seeking help regarding his Google Webmaster Tools (Google Search Console).

So, Harsh Agrawal helped him.

Then, the helpee asked for his PayPal address.

But as Harsh Agrawal did not expect to get paid, he did not create a PayPal account beforehand.

Later, he created an account with PayPal and was amazed to quickly receive money from abroad.

In this way, Harsh Agrawal earned his first online income of $10.

But it took him around four months to start making money with his blog.

And during this period, Harsh Agrawal’s blog was paying him around Rs 35000 per month and this was more than his job.

His inspirations-

Many people have inspired Harsh Agrawal to become a successful blogger.

While starting out as a blogger, he was motivated by Rahul Bansal.

Harsh Agrawal was also inspired by Darren Rowse, Amit Agarwal, John Chow and Daniel Scocco.

He also admires Pradeep Kumar and Abhijeet Mukherjee.

How Digg helped ShoutMeLoud?

Around September 2008, Harsh Agrawal’s article on Firefox got featured on the front page of Digg.

And this really helped in the popularity of ShoutMeLoud.

In just a single day, he got around 20,000 page views.

A change in direction and content management system (CMS)-

Harsh Agrawal was and is a very tech-savvy person.

ShoutMeLoud was a technology blog

Initially, the ShoutMeLoud was a technology blog in which he used to review software and products.

Back then, in 2008, Harsh Agrawal wrote about various technology topics like network and computer security, online HTML conversion tool, Twitter clients, etc.

Later on, he realised the dearth of blogs covering topics like blogging, SEO, WordPress, social media and making money online.

So, Harsh Agrawal changed the niche of his blog to cover these topics.

And he was sharing whatever he was learning about blogging through ShoutMeLoud.

After two or three months, Harsh Agrawal learnt about Google AdSense and affiliate marketing and was happy to know that it is possible to earn with blogging.

He started on the Blogger platform with the domain name virgintech.blogspot and after around three months, on December 1, 2008 he migrated to a self-hosted WordPress platform.

And on the same day, Harsh Agrawal purchased the ShoutMeLoud.com domain by taking a credit card from his friend Ankit.

In this way, ShoutMeLoud was born in December 2008.

More than happy-

After understanding the earning potential of blogging, Harsh Agrawal was more than happy.

He felt very blessed to be able to earn money by following his passion.

A very lucky blogger-

You will be surprised to know that the very first blog of Harsh Agrawal, ShoutMeLoud turned out to be very profitable.

Harsh Agrawal is very successful

It is very rare for anyone to succeed online with his very first venture but as we can see, he got very lucky.

In the cross-roads-

In April 2009, Harsh Agrawal resigned for his job at Convergys.

And in June 2009, Accenture requested him to join them.

But during this point of time, Harsh Agrawal was making a similar amount of money with his blog that the company offered him.

During that time, blogging was not at all popular in India and choosing to become a blogger was somewhat riskier.

But he wanted to become a blogger because he liked blogging more than the job and also, he was making decent money ($700) with his blog.

However, the problem was that blogging was not a popular career option then, so Harsh Agrawal was not fully confident to become a blogger.

Whereas securing a white-collar job seemed to be the safest option.

In this juncture, he asked some experienced people around him for suggestions.

Almost all of them suggested Harsh Agrawal to go for the job offered by Accenture because they thought that the job experience would prove to be helpful.

A friend who inspired him to become a full-time blogger

In the meantime, Harsh Agrawal called Keshav Gupta, his school friend who was working for an IT company.

He was the only person to encourage him to become a full-time blogger.

Keshav Gupta opined that the majority of the employees including him think of becoming entrepreneurs after working for a few years.

After gaining some experience and savings, many people like to start their own ventures.

At that time, Harsh Agrawal was making a good amount of money with his blog.

So, his friend motivated him that there is no point in abandoning blogging and his entrepreneurial dreams and joining a company.

This particular line struck with Harsh Agrawal and he decided to become a full-time blogger.

Harsh Agrawal chose to become a full-time blogger

So, in March 2009 he became a full-time blogger.

Now, when we look back, we can see that this is the best decision taken by him.

Because now, Harsh Agrawal is earning huge income with his blog and he couldn’t have earned this money if he had chosen to become an employee.

Now, he is one of the highest paid bloggers in India.

How an accident changed his destiny?

Everything was going fine in Harsh Agrawal’s life until he met with a terrible accident on June 28 2009.

This accident left him with a fractured left leg (Lisfranc fracture) but he was a bit happy to realize that he will get some relaxation as he was burnt out after working too hard on his blog for many months altogether.

But this happiness couldn’t last long as the doctor misdiagnosed Harsh Agrawal and said that he would never be able to properly walk again.

After this, for the next few days, he was very upset and angry.

Also, Harsh Agrawal saw that because of his misfortune, his parents were crying.

Then, he realized that he is not the only one to suffer from this and he can’t undo the past.

And Harsh Agrawal thought that the only thing that he can do from the hospital bed is to learn about blogging.

So, for the next six months he did the same for almost 14 hours a day.

And this played a vital role in the success of ShoutMeLoud.

Thankfully by December 2009, Harsh Agrawal recovered from the injury.

Don’t Put All your Eggs in One Basket-

Harsh Agrawal earns from many sources

The main driving force behind this is to portray blogging as a great career option.

For the first nine years of ShoutMeLoud, he regularly published the monthly income reports of his blogs.

But now, Harsh Agrawal stopped publishing these reports because some people started seeing this as bragging.
