Deepak Kanakaraju grew up in Salem, Tamil Nadu.
He did his schooling from SRV EXCEL Matric Higher Secondary School, Rasipuram, Tamil Nadu.
In 2008, Deepak Kanakaraju graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Civil Engineering from Anna University.
First internet connection-
Deepak Kanakaraju got his first ever internet connection in 2005.
It was a very slow dial-up internet connection and he used it to surf the internet on a Pentium III PC.
A year later, in 2006, after learning basic HTML Deepak Kanakaraju registered a domain name on Yahoo and created a HTML website for his dad’s construction company, DB builders.
In 2007, Deepak Kanakaraju tried his hand at affiliate marketing.
His first ever online earning was from affiliate marketing and it was $25 from Commission Junction (now CJ Affiliate).
Later, Deepak Kanakaraju learnt about the Google AdSense program from a magazine.
So, he created a blog on Blogger and applied for AdSense.
Deepak Kanakaraju got approved into AdSense but later his AdSense account got suspended.

In 2007 while studying engineering, Deepak Kanakaraju got an IT job offer from Caritor, Bengaluru.
The job offer was for ₹2.75 lakhs per annum but they delayed offering him the job until 2009.
So, after graduating in 2008, Deepak Kanakaraju had a free time of one full year to join the job.
During that time, Deepak Kanakaraju enrolled into a blogging course of an Australian blogger and mentor.
Here, he learnt all the important aspects of blogging like installing WordPress, writing and publishing articles, search engine optimization (SEO), etc.
Deepak Kanakaraju’s love for motorcycles made him start a blog on the same in 2008.
Deepak Kanakaraju used WordPress as the content management system (CMS) for BikeAdvice and monetised it with Google AdSense.
As his previous AdSense account was suspended, he created this AdSense account on his father’s name.
At that time, Deepak Kanakaraju discovered that only newspapers and magazines were covering motorcycles and only a few websites were on the topic of Indian motorcycles but they weren’t perfect in terms of SEO.
So, he started writing about the Indian motorcycles on his blog.
At that time, Deepak Kanakaraju’s expectation was to earn $200-300 per month with blogging.
First blog post-
Deepak Kanakaraju published his first ever blog post on August 6, 2008 and it was titled Hero Honda Hunk Review.
That was a 627 word article and he wrote this article after test riding a Hero Honda Hunk motorcycle from his father’s friend’s showroom.
On the day of publication, this article received 22 visitors organically through Google.
This motivated Deepak Kanakaraju to go on blogging.
He used to visit various motorcycle showrooms of the likes of Bajaj and Hero Honda on the pretext of a buyer to get test rides and click the pictures of motorcycles on his mobile
And then, write their reviews and upload the pictures on his blog.
After six months-
Likewise, Deepak Kanakaraju kept blogging and used to publish 3-5 articles per week.
For the first six months, the outcome of his blog wasn’t substantial.
But after six months, the traffic to his blog started increasing.
Thanks to this, Deepak Kanakaraju was able to earn $100 per month through AdSense.
He reinvested all this money back into his blog.
As there wasn’t much competition in the blogosphere, BikeAdvice started quickly gaining momentum and readership.
After a few years, Deepak Kanakaraju started earning $2000 each month.
Even then, he took only $500 out of this as his salary and reinvested the remaining money to grow his blog.
Going to China-
In 2009, thanks to his blog’s popularity Deepak Kanakaraju got invited to the 8th China International Motorcycle Trade Exhibition as a journalist.
He was offered a fully sponsored trip to China and visited China between 17-20 September 2009.
Deepak Kanakaraju was the only person from India to get invited to that exhibition.
Apart from him, there were many bigger publications in India but they weren’t online and unable to publish articles on par with the speed of Deepak Kanakaraju and these factors helped him to get invited.
In China, he not only met many famous journalists and editors from different countries like the then editor-in-chief of Motorcycle.com from the U.S. but also experienced Chinese culture and riding Chinese motorcycles.
Blogging not only provided Deepak Kanakaraju with many opportunities like this but also allowed him to earn a living while following his passion for motorcycles.
Millions of visitors and page views-
BikeAdvice got a total of 13.7 million page views in 2011.
In the same year, Deepak Kanakaraju hired five freelance writers from various parts of the country for his blog.
In January 2012, he was invited to the Auto Expo and on January 6, 2012, he published 13 articles on his blog.
Thanks to this, BikeAdvice received 46,569 sessions in the single day and this was the highest number of sessions that BikeAdvice ever got in a day.
This frequent publishing of blog posts contributed to the further growth of Deepak Kanakaraju’s blog.
Selling his blog-
At that point of time, Deepak Kanakaraju wasn’t able to find any other revenue sources for his blog except Google AdSense.
And after working for years on his blog, he realised that he can’t grow BikeAdvice’s revenue beyond $2000 per month.
Also, Deepak Kanakaraju wanted to try other things apart from blogging, so he decided to sell his blog.
So, in 2012, he sold his blog to a Delhite who was also one of his previous blog writers for $25000 (₹11- 11.5 lakhs).
At that time, BikeAdvice was receiving one million page views per month and was India’s top motorcycle portal.
And it was earning Deepak Kanakaraju $2000 all through Google AdSense.
From Salem to Bengaluru-
Up until this time, Deepak Kanakaraju was living in his parents’ house in Salem, Tamil Nadu.
And in 2012, he decided to move to a bigger city to learn the functioning of bigger companies and work as a digital marketer.
So, in November 2012, Deepak Kanakaraju moved to Bengaluru to work as a digital marketing manager in Theorem.
Even though he was a civil engineer without any previous work experience, he got this job for ₹11 lakh CTC.
This was possible all because of the success of his blog.
Deepak Kanakaraju’s blog was the public proof that he knows various aspects of digital marketing like social media marketing, email marketing, content marketing and SEO.
Later, he switched various companies like Exotel, Practo, Instamojo, Razorpay, etc. and worked as a digital marketing manager and gained rich and varied work experience.
Deepak Kanakaraju couldn’t resist himself from blogging even after selling BikeAdvice.
So, in October 2013, he started the DigitalDeepak blog to write about digital marketing.
Deepak Kanakaraju started this blog for personal branding and to strengthen his resume.
Here, he began sharing his digital marketing experience while working with various companies.
As Deepak Kanakaraju was in a full-time job, he was able to publish only two to three articles per month on his blog.
Around September 2016, DigitalDeepak acquired 25k subscribers.
Now, this is one of the top digital marketing blogs of India.
First digital marketing course-
In 2016, Deepak Kanakaraju planned to launch a digital marketing course, so he decided to survey the members of his Facebook group, Learn Digital Marketing.
So, he ran a poll in the group and asked the members to choose between Google Ads, Facebook ads and SEO.
And the majority of the members voted to learn Google Ads.
In 2016, Deepak Kanakaraju launched his first course and it was on Google Ads.
At that time, he was working full-time for Razorpay and so, he created courses on the weekends.

And Deepak Kanakaraju got an initial order worth ₹2.5 lakhs and it was very profitable.
Eventually, he also created courses on Facebook ads, SEO, etc. and all of them turned out to be extremely profitable.
For example, the revenue of his SEO course was ₹8 lakhs.
In that year, thanks to all his courses, Deepak Kanakaraju’s revenue was a whopping ₹1.5 crore.
Entrepreneurship for the second time-
At that time, Deepak Kanakaraju realised that the time had come for him to start his second entrepreneurial journey.
So, in January 2017, he resigned from Razorpay.
By 2018, Deepak Kanakaraju’s revenue from his business grew to around ₹10-15 lakh per month.
Thanks to his blogging and work experiences, Deepak Kanakaraju got many speaking and training opportunities.

In 2017, he was invited to the Affiliate World Asia conference in Thailand.
On February 4, 2018, Deepak Kanakaraju spoke at a TEDx event at GLIM Chennai.
He also trained many companies like Mercedes-Benz, Nikon, HDFC, etc. in the area of digital marketing.
Now his digital marketing Facebook group, Learn Digital Marketing has more than 206K members and is the largest digital marketing Facebook group in the world.
Startups and books–
In March 2018, Deepak Kanakaraju along with Sanjay Shenoy founded PixelTrack Digital.
And in April 2021, he founded LearnToday to teach digital marketing.
Deepak Kanakaraju also authored many books like Edge of Sanity, How to Get Your Dream Digital Marketing Job, Content Marketing for Startups and Product Launch Success Blueprint: How To Create & Launch Your First Product.
